Amazon Delivery Driver Saves Drowning Dog During One Of His Stop
Sometimes the universe works in mysterious ways. And it was a very lucky break for one elderly dog who had run into a spot of trouble in his backyard pool when an Amazon delivery driver showed up just in time to rescue him. John Cassabria, was making his deliveries in Woburn, Massachusetts, when he stopped at one house in particular. It was then that he noticed something was moving in the pool. Cassabria shared with WBZ-TV that when he realized it was a dog struggling to keep his head above water, he went straight into action.
Cassabria jumped into the pool fully clothed and with his phone, wallet, or watch still in his pocket – but that didn’t matter to him. His main focus was saving the drowning dog. And that is how he managed to keep 14-year-old Luka from meeting a tragic end. According to Luka’s owner, Julie Caldwell, it was a good thing Cassabria showed up when he did seeing as the senior pooch has problems with his hind legs.
As reported by WBZ-TV the incident most likely happened when a bone got caught in the pool’s vacuum. This commotion would’ve been enough to peak Luka’s interest and get him to wander over towards the pool.
Caldwell wasn’t around at the time of the incident since she had just gone on her vacation a few hours prior. She learned of the near tragic accident when she was contacted by Animal Control. Since there was still an hour and a half to go until Luka’s scheduled pet sitter arrived to care for him, Cassabria volunteered to stay behind with the pup and watch him until the sitter arrived.
The kind delivery driver, “I happened to be in the right moment at the right time. I would repeat the same actions over and over if I had to.”
Caldwell was incredibly grateful to the wonderful man for rescuing her dog that she was moved to send a letter to the CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. In her note, which was picked up by Boston.com, she sang Cassabria’s praises, saying, “Words cannot express how grateful we are to him. In fact, I have tears in my eyes as I write this email. Luka is doing fine thanks to your wonderful and courageous employee.”
According to PEOPLE, Amazon company has yet to reply with a statement. But we can only hope that they will give their employee the recognition that he deserves.
