HGTV Star Posts Heartfelt Tribute After Her Rescue Dog Passed Away
Nicole Curtis is known for being the host of such beloved HGTV shows like “Rehab Addict” and “Rehab Addict Rescue.” But she is also a dog owner, however, she recently had to endure the heartbreak of her beloved dog Lucy passing away.
She shared the devastating news on her Instagram post where she wrote, “My dog, Lucy, is gone. The tears haven’t stopped the heartache so bad that I’ve sat in my house just screaming her name out.” Included in her post was a picture of the two of them curled up together.
While her post didn’t share the exact circumstances of how Lucy passed away, Curtis did explain that Lucy was brought back to her by her neighbor. She said, “I saw my neighbor coming up the walk carrying her yesterday saying I’m so sorry, mama. They laid her down next to me and I cradled my baby.”
Lucy was a Brussels Griffon mix who Curtis adopted during a charity auction in 2013. According to Dogster at the time Lucy was only a 6-month-old puppy. Just a year before Lucy was adopted, Curtis had to say goodbye to her former dog Polly. At the time Curtis was still heartbroken over the passing of Polly, that she stated she wouldn’t be getting another dog as she didn’t want to or need to get another pet. Of course, those were famous last words because at the charity auction Curtis was asked to hold the little pup. Little Lucy’s charm worked, and Curtis fell in love with the puppy rather quickly. As she recalled, “And then after an hour of sitting with her, I was like, this is my new dog. Needless to say, when bidding started my paddle stayed up until she was mine to keep forever.”
After being adopted Lucy soon went on to be Curtis’s shadow and would go with her everywhere. They took car rides together, went for runs, shared vacations together – Lucy was even there as Curtis began a family of her own. The HGTV star noted that while Lucy wasn’t biologically hers, they very much shared a familial bond and the little dog felt quite like another child to Curtis. And it seemed like the feeling was mutual as Lucy acted like the protective older sibling to Curtis’ child. She shared, “From the moment I brought her home, she slept curled into my belly, she spent 9 months curled against my pregnant belly, she then guarded my baby like he was her own.”
Curtis is not left heartbroken and having to process her grief over the loss of her beloved dog. But at least she is surrounded by people who care. Curtis stated that her friends rallied around her, creating a casket for Lucy and helping Curtis to dig a little grave in her backyard where they laid the dog to rest. Curtis still cannot believe that Lucy is gone, and she’s completely at a loss as to how to cope. We send her our deepest condolences.
