Best Friend Day – Dog is Good
On June 8th, the world celebrates National Best Friend’s Day. It a day to honor that one special person you call your best friend. But heck, let’s forget the HOOMANS, and call it what it is. Your dog, your four-legged friend, your loyal companion, is truly your best pal and you know it! They love us so unconditionally, we are co-dependent in the best way possible. A dog will be your best friend no matter what. There’s no better way than celebrate in true doggy style for Best Friend Day!
Walkies
Head out to the park with your best friend. With you pal by your side you will never walk alone. It’s not where you walk, it’s who walks with you. Bonding time during walking is important and the side health benefit for you and your pup is paw-some. Your dog will keep you motivated and active.
Man’s Best Friend
How did this phrase originate? The first ever recorded use of the phrase was by dog-lover, Frederick the Great, King of Prussia from 1740 to 1786. Frederick was a devoted dog lover to his beloved Italian greyhound. Following the first use in 1789, the phrase was then made popular by the poem “Introduction to Dogs” written by author Odgen Nash. It wasn’t until the turn of the 19th, and more prominently the 20th century, that the relationship between dogs and humans began to shift, leading us to the closely bonded relationship we have today.
Quality Time
Dogs are our best friends because their commitment is 100% unconditional love. From sitting on the couch, to following you to the bathroom, to supervising your kitchen skills, dogs are always with you. As a dog dad or dog mom, you can tell them all your secrets and they won’t ever spread the woof!
Adventure Time
All the things that you love to do, your dog wants to do with you too! Camping, hiking, rv-ing are great activities for the human-dog relationship. Whether you live high on a mountain top or in the urban jungle, your dog is ready for your next adventure together. Sniffing new places is exactly what your best friend wants to do!
Get Cooking
The second most loved thing by your dog (besides you of course) is food! Try making some new food for your pup, and maybe look up some new recipes for human food while you’re at it, so you can get some variety, too. Preparing food for your dog is probably easier and more fun than you think, and it feels good to know you put in extra effort and made something special for your dog. Ask your veterinarian what kinds of food you can share with your pup.
True Love
While we celebrate National Best Friend Day on June 8th, as pet parents we know that our love for dog is every day, all day, 365 days of the year. Whether you spend the day doing fun activities with your teacup Chihuahua or just a snuggle session on the couch with your big mutt, your dog will love you for it. They are truly man’s (and woman’s) best friend.
