Dog Abandoned in Park Bathroom with Suitcase Full of Puppies Tied to Her
A pit bull was abandoned in a bathroom stall at a Tacoma, Washington park with a suitcase full of 11 newborn puppies tied to her.
“They left her in a bathroom at Point Defiance Park. She was terrified and so confused. Wondering if she did something wrong to be left behind? But that wasn’t the worst part. Inside the bathroom, the sweet girl had been tied to a suitcase. And inside the suitcase were her small, frail, one-week-old puppies. Their tiny cries echoed in the bathroom as they huddled together for warmth,” a heartbreaking Facebook post reads.
The approximately 4-year-old dog was starving and emaciated when she was found, according to the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County. The Good Samaritan that found the mother dog and her puppies is fostering all twelve while they undergo veterinary care which includes treating the one-week-old puppies for strangles, a hereditary condition that causes facial swelling and skin lesions.
Humane Society staff named the mother dog Oolong. The puppies were all named after coffees and teas: Coconut, Peppermint, Venti, Chai, Earl Gray, Macha, Chamomile, Macchiato, Mocha and Caramel.
“Mama dog and puppies are doing well,” said Lindsey Heaney, spokeswoman for the Humane Society. “Mom is very social and loving.” But, it will be several months before they are old enough and healthy enough to be adopted. To help with their care, the Humane Society is asking for donations for the dogs.
Police have no information about who abandoned the dog and her puppies, or how long they were left in the bathroom stall.
