Dog Always Grabs The Bread And Guards It Whenever Her Family Leaves
A 6-year-old Rottweiler named Jakey is proving just how wonderfully pure dogs really are after it went viral that this sweetheart guards her family’s food.
Four years ago, after observing how much her family enjoys their bread, this loyal canine started doing something quirky yet cute. Whenever the family would leave the house, she would locate their bread, then hide it in order to keep it safe.
Her owner, Katrina Frank, wrote, “Whenever we leave the house, Jakey deems it absolutely vital for her to protect any bread we have in the house.”
Knowing that their bread is well-cared for while they’re gone when the family comes home they just have to say the magic words, “Jake, where’s the bread?” in order for her to reveal where she’s hidden it. Ever since she started, the ritual continues into the present day.
And what is more incredible, is all this time she’s never once taken a bite out of the bread. That is some true self-control!
As Katrina revealed to The Dodo, “We have a bread box so she likes to hop up and pull it out of there. If I leave it in the pantry instead, she nudges the door open and gets it out. I’ve put it in the refrigerator before and she has opened the door to get to it.”
Jakey is quite serious about her role as guardian of the bread. And, when there isn’t any bread to be found, this dog then takes a stand defending any baked goods that might be in the house.
As Katrina revealed, “If I’m out of bread, she moves on to baked goods. Once she took a Tupperware of cookies off the counter and hid all 17 individually without breaking any. She led me to all of them.”
Quite impressive.
And none of the other household animals can get close to sneaking a snack under Jakey’s watchful eye. As Katrina revealed in a recent post, their cat Nacho was curious about a loaf of garlic bread, but Jakey was there to shoo her off.
Katrina believes that Jakey’s quirky behavior started because “she thinks it’s the most important thing to us because we use it so often.”
In fact, just recently, Katrina posted, “Jakey the Bread Protector strikes again, without fail. Tonight she had to bring the bread all the way to the top of the stairs. Not sure what crazy business went on while we were gone, but clearly someone on the main level of the house must have been posing a threat to our carbs.”
And this is why we love dogs so much.
