Easy Dog Ice Cream with Berries – Top Dog Tips

Most owners believe that ice cream is a safe treat for their pups. While it’s not toxic, ice cream made for humans contains lactose, which some dogs cannot digest. Human ice cream also has sugar and artificial ingredients that could upset your dog’s stomach. This easy dog ice cream is made with real berries, and it’s packed with nutrients that your pup needs.

You can purchase commercial doggy ice products, but making your own homemade frozen treats is a healthier option. DIY dog treats allow you to select your own ingredients, so you can choose things that you know your dog loves. You can also choose fresh, whole food ingredients that are safer and healthier than the artificial ingredients in commercial products.

This recipe uses mixed berries, but you can substitute any dog-friendly ingredients that you’d like. If other fruits or vegetables are in season, feel free to use them instead. You can also check out some of my other recipes for frozen dog treats:

Easy Dog Ice Cream Recipe

ingredients for ice creamIngredients

  • 1 cup mixed berries
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Directions

This is a very simple recipe. I used frozen berries, but you can definitely use fresh berries if you would prefer. The mix I use has blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and raspberries.

If you’re going to feed this ice cream regularly, you can substitute other dog-friendly fruits and veggies. Some of my favorite substitutions include:

  • pumpkin
  • cranberries
  • apples
  • bananas
  • kale
  • spinach

To make this easy dog ice cream, just add the water and berries to a food processor. You can add more water if needed. Once it is pureed, just pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze until firm.

The best part of this doggy ice cream is that it is low in calories. You can feed your dog one cube at a time as a treat, or you can give him a bowl of ice cream to cool down on a hot day.
