Homemade Dog Food for Digestive Disorders Recipe
Digestive disorders in dogs can range from mild issues to severe diseases. It may be as simple as your dog having eaten something that he shouldn’t have or it could be a parasite, bacteria or virus that is causing the problem. Before switching your pup to a homemade dog food for digestive disorders, it’s best to seek help from your veterinarian to find the root cause of the issues.
Dogs are known for getting into things that they shouldn’t, especially when those things smell good – well, good to the dog at least! Oftentimes dogs will eat the ‘delicious’ things that they find. It could be garbage, rotten food or even feces from another animal. More often than not, eating these things will lead to digestive upset.
Your dog can also easily pick up bacteria, viruses or parasites when ingesting things. These types of infections can be spread through eating contaminated food or water. Eating the feces of other animals is another common way these infections can be spread.
Signs of digestive disorders in dogs include:
- abdominal pain
- excessive drooling
- constipation and/or diarrhea
- vomitting
- loss of appetite
- bloody stool
As I mentioned, if you are concerned that your dog may be having digestive troubles, seek veterinary help immediately. While the problem may pass on its own, digestive disorders could lead to serious and irreversible health problems if left untreated.
You should not switch your pet to this homemade dog food for digestive disorders without consulting your veterinarian first. They can guide you on the proper treatment depending on the cause of your dog’s GI upset. They can also help you to determine if this recipe will provide your dog with balanced nutrition.

Ingredients
- 2 lbs. boneless/skinless chicken breasts or thighs
- 1/4 lb. chicken livers
- 1 lb. cod
- 1/2 lb. carrots
- 1/2 lb. green beans
- 1 cup canned pumpkin
- 1 large sweet potato
- 1 large apple
Instructions
It is very simple to prepare this homemade dog food for digestive disorders. The first thing you’ll need to do is chop the green beans, sweet potato and carrots. You’ll also need to core and chop the apple. You will also need to cut the chicken into bite-size pieces.
Preheat your oven to 250°.
Place the piece of cod on the bottom of a well greased casserole pan. Then layer the chicken, chicken livers, carrots, green beans, sweet potato, canned pumpkin and apple pieces over the cod.
Cook all of the ingredients in the 250° oven for about 60 minutes. Once the homemade dog food for digestive disorders has finished cooking, mash all of the ingredients together with a hand masher.
Once the meal has cooled you can serve it to your dog. The recommended serving size is about 1/2 cup for every 25 pounds of body weight. You should be feeding 2 servings per day. Remember to consult your veterinarian before serving this diet. More active dogs may need more calories, while senior pets and lazier breeds may not need as many calories.
Your veterinarian may also recommend adding supplements to this recipe to make it complete and balanced for your pooch. You can store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 5 days or in an airtight container in the freezer for 8-12 weeks.
