Passenger’s Dog That Went Missing In World’s Busiest Airport Is Finally Found

Last month, airport staff lost one passenger’s dog at the Atlanta Airport. And on September 9, Saturday, after almost a month of anxiety, Paula Rodriguez, the owner of the missing dog can finally rest after her dog was safely recovered at the airport.

On September 9, Atlanta Airport’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) account announced that after almost a month of Maia missing, the pooch has been recovered.

Atlanta Airport wrote, “Maia, the dog who escaped onto the airfield at the world’s busiest airport, was recovered on September 9. ATL’s Operations team found her hiding near the North Cargo facilities.”

“Tired but in apparent good health, she was transported to a vet and is expected to return home soon,” the Atlanta Airport wrote.

Furthermore, in an X broadcast by CBS News correspondent David Begnaud, he revealed that Maia was found by Robin Allgood, an animal welfare volunteer who put up flyers of Maia around the airport.

Allgood told Begnaud that she went to the airport on September 9, Saturday after she got a call from someone who said they saw the pooch.

Allgood said she found Maia under a rack used to move cargo containers around the airport. According to her, a wildlife biologist tried to catch the pooch with a net twice, but failed to do so.

After the failed attempts, people started talking about how they could get the dog out from under the rack.

Allgood recalled, “And I thought, ‘you know what? Y’all aren’t getting her, I am’ So I just started scooting on my back under the rack and nobody even knew I was under there and I just reached and grabbed her and then somebody said ‘Oh my gosh, she’s got her.’”

Allgood said Maia was in great shape and that her paw pads aren’t injured, which indicates that the pooch was hiding the whole time.

The animal welfare volunteer also shared that she called Maia’s owner, Rodriguez, and reassured her that Maia is in “incredible shape”.

Maia the dog got lost in Atlanta Airport on August 18, Friday, when she escaped her kennel while she was being transported to the plane her owner was in.
