Peanut and Honey Dog Treats – Top Dog Tips
Peanut butter is one of my dogs’ favorite treats. I love using peanut butter to flavor their homemade treats. They enjoy the taste, and their treats are packed with all the nutritional benefits that peanut butter has to offer!
Not only is peanut butter a great source of protein, it also has Vitamin B and E, niacin, heart healthy fats and many other nutrients that your dog’s body needs. Just be careful that the peanut butter you purchase does not contain xylitol – it can be toxic to canines.
These homemade dog treats also contain honey. I recommend using raw, unfiltered honey. Raw honey has natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Honey is rich in antioxidants and natural enzymes.
Honey has been shown to have neurological benefits and anti-inflammatory properties. It may also relieve allergy symptoms, help to treat respiratory issues, improve digestion and boost the immune system. Can you see why I love including it in my homemade dog treat recipes?
Peanut and Honey Dog Treats Recipe
As you can see, this is a limited ingredient recipe. With just seven ingredients, it’s an excellent option for pets with food allergies or sensitive stomachs. You can also choose natural, organic ingredients to ensure that you make this recipe as healthy as possible.
Recipe: Peanut and Honey Dog Treats
If your dog has allergies, you can substitute rice flour, coconut flour or any other type of flour that is suitable for his digestion. You could also substitute quinoa flakes in place of the oats, if need be. Flaxseed or ground sunflower seeds could be used in place of the oat bran.

- 1/3 cup raw honey
- 1 cup crunchy peanut butter
- 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup steel cut oats
- 1 cup oat bran
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
Preheat your oven to 350˚ F.
Mix all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add more flour if the dough is sticky. Divide the recipe into dough balls that are appropriately sized for your pooch.
Place the dough balls on a well greased cookie sheet. Flatten them until the are about 1/4″ thick. Bake the treats in your 350˚ oven for 15-20 minutes. You’ll know when they are done, because they’ll begin to brown and the tops will look cracked.

How to store: Store leftover treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 12-14 days. Remember that homemade treats do not have the preservatives that store bought products do. They will not last as long. If you’d like, you can freeze these treats in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
