Review: CBD Gel Pen for Dogs
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a substance extracted from the hemp plant that has been shown to be an effective treatment for many ailments.
As you can probably imagine, it is a very controversial treatment option. Because this is a relatively new method of treatment, there is not a lot of research on the subject.
This is what keeps many veterinarians from condoning the use of CBD to treat veterinary patients.
However, many holistic veterinarians, canine health specialists, and pet owners have seen the positive effects that this medicine can have on dogs.
You can find CBD supplements and dog treats infused with CBD on many online pet retailers’ websites. They are also available in some pet specialty stores.
Supplements and infused dog treats are great, but some of the potency of the CBD is lost in the digestive tract.
That’s why The Green Pet Shop created this CBD Gel Pen for dogs. It’s an easy-to-use applicator that dispenses CBD-infused gel, which can then be rubbed onto your pet’s skin.

CBD Gel Pen for Dogs Review
This product has a very simple design. The gel inside is made with CBD that is derived from the flowers of 100% organic, natural Colorado-grown Industrial Hemp Cannabis Plants.
These plants have been selected for optimal CBD levels, and The Green Pet Shop says that they are cultivated on a small, organic family farm.

On the bottom of the pen, there is a dial. When you turn it clockwise it unlocks the pump inside. Turning it counterclockwise will lock the pump.
Each pen has enough gel inside for 50 pumps, and each pump contains 1 mg. of CBD.
As you’ll see in my video, all you need to do is rub the CBD gel onto the inside of your dog’s ear.
It’s that simple! You can also rub it on another exposed veinous area of your dog’s body if he is sensitive about you touching his ears.
I definitely recommend rubbing on his inner ear if at all possible, as he will be able to lick the gel if you put it anywhere else.
These pens cost $40 on the company’s website, but unfortunately that $40 won’t get you very far if you have a big dog. The dosing instructions are:
- 5-20 pounds – 1-2 mg.
- 20-50 pounds – 2-5 mg.
- 50+ pounds – +1 mg. per 10 pounds of additional weight
These doses areas needed up to 4 times per day. As you can see, 50 pumps won’t treat a large breed for very long. For example, my boxer weighs 55 pounds.
If I gave her 5 mg. per day, then the entire CBD Gel Pen would be gone in just ten days. At $40 per pen, that’s $4 for treatment.
As I mentioned, there hasn’t been much research done on the effects of CBD on dogs.
It does seem that CBD could have a positive effect on dogs suffering from anxiety, diseases associated with oxidation (such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory, and autoimmune diseases), joint pain, and nausea.

If you think that a CBD Gel Pen could help your dog, $4 per day for relief from these issues probably doesn’t seem so bad, especially when you compare it too costly pharmaceuticals and surgeries.
It really comes down to your own beliefs on CBD for dogs and what your veterinarian recommends.
If you would like to try to help your dog by using any CBD-infused products, it’s best to chat with your veterinarian first.
If your vet doesn’t approve of this treatment, you can always get a second opinion from a holistic veterinarian or other canine health specialists in your area.

Now it’s your turn to review the CBD Gel Pen for dogs from The Green Pet Shop
Have you tried this gel pen on your dog?
Have you ever tried any other CBD-infused products with your pet? I’d love to hear your opinion on this product, and if you have any first-hand experience with CBD as a treatment for dogs, I’d be interested in hearing that too.
