For your dog’s containment and safety, and keeping them away from climbing the stairs, using a pet gate is your only option. Not all pet gates will work with stairs, however, as some are designed for doorways only.

The size of your dog is important to consider. Your pet should not be able to climb, jump over the gate, push through it or tip it over.
