Dog Missing for Weeks Wandered into Walmart and Found Her Owner at a Register

When June Rountree’s beloved pup, Abby disappeared from her Dothan, Alabama backyard in November, the devastated dog mom and her husband circled the neighborhood, put out missing dog alerts, and prayed for her safe return. As days and weeks passed, the Rountree’s began to worry they’d never see their 4-year old pup again.

That was until three weeks later on November 26, when June, a longtime cashier was at work, behind register no. 6 at the Dothan Walmart.

Customer service associate, Danielle Robinette was working behind the service desk when she heard a commotion and looked up to see a loose dog running through the store with a security guard chasing behind.

The dog darted through a few aisles with staff chasing after her. She was clearly looking for something—or someone. That’s when Rountree looked up from her register and saw the familiar white blaze around her face and chest.

“I called her name and she came to me,” Rountree said. “I bent over and hugged her. I completely lost it then. I couldn’t speak. I was in complete shock and just couldn’t believe it,” Rountree told The Washington Post.

Robinette snapped photos of the amazing reunion and shared them on Facebook:

No one knows how Abby escaped her backyard, where she spent the next three weeks, or exactly how she knew where to find her human, but her incredible sense of smell likely played a role.

The Rountree’s live about a mile-and-a-half from the Walmart where June has worked for the past 10 years. Though Abby had never been inside the store, it’s possible that in her journey, she ventured close-by enough to catch her owner’s scent and track it inside the store.

Or, it could be a miraculous coincidence… but we know dogs are smarter than that.
