Healthy Dog Cake Recipe with Peanut Butter – Top Dog Tips

Pet owners are celebrating their pups’ birthdays more than ever. There are commercial doggy cakes available, but they don’t offer the nutrition that this healthy dog cake recipe does. It’s probably cheaper to make this cake, too! With just a few affordable ingredients, it’s simple and budget-friendly.

It’s fun to spoil your dog every once in a while. This cake recipe would be great for any doggy birthday party, but it would also make a great snack for a puppy play date. We don’t often thing of cake as a healthy snack, but this recipe is made with some very nutritious ingredients.

When you’re shopping for the necessary ingredients, be sure to use organic, natural ingredients whenever possible. One of the best things about making your dog’s birthday cake yourself is that you can leave out all of the unnecessary preservatives and artificial ingredients found in commercial products.

Healthy Dog Cake Recipe

Ingredients

• 1 cup of flour
• 1/2 tsp. baking soda
• 1/8 cup vegetable oil
• 1/4 cup peanut butter
• 1/2 cup apple sauce
• 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
• 1 egg

Directions

Preheat oven to 350˚F.

Mix the flour and baking soda together in a small bowl, and set them aside. Mix all of the other ingredients in a medium-size mixing bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix until a smooth batter forms.

Pour the batter into a well greased 8″ cake pan. Bake in 350˚F oven for 20-25 minutes. While the cake is baking, you can prepare frosting if you would like to top the cake.

To make healthy frosting for dogs, I mix 1/2 cup of plain yogurt and 1/4 cup of peanut butter. You can frost the cake once it has cooled. I also like to add small dog treats or some sliced fruits/vegetables for decoration.

You can feed your pup a small piece of cake as a treat. Remember that it will add extra calories to his diet. You should only feed him one small piece per day.
