Healthy Dog Cookie Recipe with Pumpkin – Top Dog Tips


This dog treat recipe contains pumpkin and molasses – two ingredients that offer a lot of nutritional benefits. Pumpkin is well known as a superfood ingredient for both pets and people. It is often recommended for dogs with digestive issues, because it is packed with fiber. Pumpkin can also benefit urinary health and is a good source of protein and carbohydrates.

Molasses contain essential nutrients like calcium, copper, iron Vitamin B6, potassium, manganese, selenium and magnesium. They also contain sugar, so they’re not an ingredient that should be added to your dog’s diet on a regular basis.

These treats are easy to make and can even be frozen for long-term storage. I also like them because they are soft and can be easily broken. They are perfect for any size, breed or age. You can even use them for training treats.

Healthy Dog Cookie Recipe with Pumpkin

  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 4 tbsp. molasses
  • 4 tbsp. water
  • 2 tbsp. coconut oil
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions

Preheat your oven to 350°F.

First, mix the pumpkin, molasses, coconut oil and water together in a medium-size mixing bowl. Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder and cinnamon to the mixture. Stir until a dough forms, and then knead until the dough is completely blended.

You will need to place the cookies on a greased cookie sheet. To form the dough balls, you can wet your hands and roll small ping pong-sized balls of dough. You can also just drop small dough balls onto the cookie sheet with a spoon. The best thing about dogs is that they don’t care what their cookies look like.

Once you’ve filled the cookie sheet, flatten the balls with a fork. I demonstrate how to do this in my video guide as well. Bake the cookies in a 350°F oven for about 25 minutes.

You can freeze the dough before cooking if you’re interested in storing it long-term. It will keep in the freezer in an airtight container for up to 3 months. If you choose to bake the cookies, store the extras in an airtight container at room temperature for 5-7 days.
