How Much Does It Cost to Groom a Dog in Salons?

There are many different places to get dogs groomed, from independent businesses to nationwide companies.

Each pet groomer will charge differently for their services, but most linger within the same general price range. Dog grooming prices will also vary depending upon the services that you’d like to have done.

Comparing Dog Grooming PricesPrices for grooming a dog vary by the groomer, the age and breed of your dog.

It matters how many services are needed.

Also, the temperament/behavior of your dog, and how much work needs to be put into grooming him.

Of course, dogs with longer coats or dogs that are a bit harder to handle will cost more to groom.

But did you ever think about the condition of the dog when he arrives at the groomers?

If you keep up with routine grooming maintenance, it’s likely that you’ll shave some money of the dog grooming prices you’ll be charged.

It’s much easier to groom a pet who is used to being cared for and one whose coat isn’t in a total state of disarray.

Bathing and brushing your pet in between professional grooming sessions will make things go much smoother when it’s time to go to the salon.

These websites use information that they’ve gathered from groomers and grooming clients to compile averages for different dog grooming prices.

These prices will also be effected by your region, as the cost of living is higher in some places than others.

1. Angie’s List

Angie’s List states that, on average, prices for getting your pet groomed ranges between $30 and $90, depending on the age and breed of each dog.

They also took a survey among their members in 2014, and the results showed that the average price for dog grooming is $53.

Medium to large breeds with thin hair, like Labrador Retrievers, Collies, and Golden Retrievers, tend to average in the $50 to $70 range.

Large and giant breeds (Great Pyrenees and the Bernese Mountain Dog), and mid-sized breeds with thick hair (Standard Poodle), can range in price from $70 to $90 or more.

Another option is a mobile dog grooming service, which entails a groomer coming to your home to groom your dog. They’d bring all their tools and services with them, and most offer the same services as other salons.

According to Cuteness.com, standard dog grooming prices with mobile salons typically range from $30 all the way up to $100 and higher.

Prices depend on many factors, like where you live, what your dog’s age, size, and hair type is, and what services you require. Costs also vary by groomer. Many mobile groomers also charge a convenience fee that usually ranges from $10 to $15.

Mobile dog grooming salons tend to be quite a bit more pricey, but they’re very convenient for many dog-owners. Convenience is always a consideration, but so is price-for-value ratio. Think if this is worth it or not.

5. FunkyPuppy

Something else to consider as well is tipping your groomer. FunkyPuppy says you should tip based on a few points. Essential, you want to tip based on the quality of the services provided and how well your groomer communicated with you. They say that you should decide on how much to tip using two groups.

The “Appreciation tip” should be $5-$10, or 15 to 20 percent of what you’re paying. This is a general tip, used if your dog wasn’t too much trouble during the grooming. This is assuming the services needed for your dog were basic and not too much extra effort had to be put into grooming him.

The “Extra Mile” or “Special Circumstances” tip is typically $15 or more, or 30 percent of your payment. You should use this tip if your dog was less than well-behaved, caused a “scene” of sorts. That may be if he was aggressive or needed extra grooming attention due to the poor condition of his coat.

Tipping is an important factor when it comes to dog grooming prices, as your groomer has gone above and beyond to make you and your dog happy. Having your dog groomed can be costly depending on what breed you own. However, it’s well worth it and much needed to keep your furry friend happy and healthy.
