Rescue Dog That Hugs Everyone He Meets Is Looking For A New Home

Dogs are some of the sweetest souls out there. And one rescue dog in New York has a very gentle heart. The precious pup is so happy about being rescued that he goes around hugging all the people that he meets.

The five-year-old pooch named Toro was found last October chained to a fence outside an abandoned house. The poor dog was weighed down by a 15-pound collar on his neck. Thankfully Toro wasn’t alone, there were two other dogs abandoned alongside him. He ended up in the care of the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. They helped the friendly pup get adopted, however, he ended up back at the shelter – the failed adoption not having worked out. Despite the blow, Toro’s spirit has never diminished. The pup is still a very happy dog and he shows it by hugging all those he meets.

They make me feel so loved…thank goodness for this staff. 🥰🙏🏼🤗 #AdoptToro . . . Shelter Bio: Meet Toro- Toro is our handsome 5 year old boy who came to us after being seized off a property with two other dogs. Toro was found with a 15.7 lb pound collar and chain around his neck, tied to a fence, at an abandoned home. Thankfully, we removed them off their chains and brought them to safety. Toro is still waiting for his forever home, with someone who will give him structure, love, and patience. Toro is shy but super sweet and affectionate when he gets to know you. Toro is looking for an adult only home due to guarding he displayed in his last adoptive home. Toro was sadly never properly socialized and trained prior to coming to our shelter and possibly lived outside his entire life. It is very important to give Toro structure, have him crate trained and teach him basic obedience. Toro is recommended to be the only pet. We want to see this boy in a loving home, after all he's been through, he deserves the best. The friendly pooch has even been set up with his own Instagram page, @adopt_toro_who_hugs, which has accumulated quite the following. Toro has over 10K followers! Amazing.

But as Melissa Fogarty, the shelter’s kennel and placement supervisor shared with The Dodo, he wasn’t always so happy. When he first arrived at the shelter, he was very shy and nervous. It was clear that the pup had never experienced love. It took him a little while, but he eventually became more comfortable being around people.

After a sad life of a heavy chain & abandonment, I can still smile. 💔🙏🏼😍 #AdoptToro . . . She added that she was one of the first people that he socialized with while on walks. As she stated, “The hugging happened probably within 15 minutes of having him out loose in our side play yard. He just kind of crawled up to me, climbed on my lap, and pressed himself against my chest… from there it grew and now he hugs all his friends here.”

As he searches for his home, his shelter bio has been updated to share that he needs someone able to provide him “structure, love, and patience.” Toro needs a home with adults-only, as well as proper training, given that the poor pup has “never properly socialized and trained prior to coming to our shelter and possibly lived outside his entire life.”

The shelter further explained that Toro can be provided with structure by being crated and taught basic commands. It also said that Toro should be the only pet. The shelter stated, “We want to see this boy in a loving home, after all that he’s been through, he deserves the best.”
