Woman Rescues The Most Neglected, Oldest, And Broken Dogs Nobody Wants

If you are an animal lover, then you know just how heartbreaking it is to see an animal suffer. As an animal person myself, my heart aches every time I see or hear about an animal in need. So, if you’re like me, get the tissues ready, because this story brings out the tears since it’s about the Pawlicious Poochie Pet Rescue in St. Petersburg, Florida – a rescue headed by a superwoman who is determined to save the lives of all rescue dogs who are the most critically-injured, elderly, or least likely to survive.

Jamie Bunny McKnight is the woman behind PPPR and began the rescue after wanting to save the severely neglected, most broken, and oldest dogs out there, who would otherwise not be given a chance. To date, she has managed to rescue thousands of dogs – and she does it entirely on her own. She receives no grants or corporate funding. PPPR is entirely funded through donations and Jamie’s two full-time jobs.

PPPR represents itself with pink everything – Jamie even has a pink tattoo on her wrist to signify her commitment. On occasion, she’ll also adorn her rescue dogs in pink sparkly outfits as well.

“I chose pink and sparkles because so many rescues are dark and sad. Everyone knows rescue is sad but I wanted to make it happy and bright and over the top so more would want to get involved,” Jamie explained.

In fact, speaking of sparkles, one of her brightest personalities happens to be Bunny La La, who is affectionately known as Lols. Lols suffers from chronic respiratory problems – and for a while, it was very touch and go for a couple of months. Lols showed that she was a very plucky little dog, and she pulled through. Now, she is thankfully thriving. She’s got quite the bossy little personality, and has no trouble telling Jamie when she wants a ham and cheese croissant or a scone from her favorite coffee shop!

PPPR is constantly being sought out in order to help save dogs in need – they come from anywhere, such as kill-shelters, local drop-offs, or strays. Incredibly, Jamie takes them all in and cares for them right in her home. She refers to all the rescues as her “kiddos” and spoils them rotten as best she can. PPPR never uses foster homes due to the highly demanding level of care that all these dogs require. In addition, the emotional toll associated with caring for them is pretty high as the cases of abuse and neglect that comes through PPPR’s doors is unimaginable. However, thanks to Jamie and her supporters, these dogs can have their well-deserved happy endings.

Jamie’s home is always full of rescues who have known more heartache than love in their lives, but because of Jamie’s generosity, they get to enjoy kindness. Some of the dogs that come through are little hospice cases. All the dogs in her care are always being showered with love and affection, as well as plenty of cuddles. There is also the occasional trip to Target where they get treated to cheese pizza and some retail therapy. Even though these dogs may not have long left, at least they have a wonderful place to live out their days.

But not every dog that comes through her home is a hospice case. There are plenty that are adopted out to their forever homes after they have been healed. And naturally, there are a few of Jamie’s own rescues who permanently live there. On any given day, Jamie typically has about 5 or six dogs waiting to be adopted. In the meantime, they’re treated like members of the family and get to sleep in her bed, go on walks in their stroller, and even get to shadow her at work.

And Jamie has no limit on the extent of care she’s willing to provide. Jamie has partnered with Partridge Animal Hospital in order to provide her rescues with all the care they need. Of course, caring for these precious dogs doesn’t come cheap – on average, PPPR spends $1,000-$6,000 per dog! However, occasionally there will be cases such as the adorable little Cadmar, who required $12,000 worth of life-saving medical treatment.

The resilient little Cadmar came from a kill shelter up in Miami. He’d be hit by a car, and his injuries made him unable to urinate or poop. As a result, he required multiple life-saving surgeries. Over several weeks in the hospital, Cadmar had survived everything from dental surgery to neutering – amongst other procedures. After everything he went through, Cadmar is living a very happy and healthy life and Jamie says that was all worth every penny and sleepless night.

Both Jamie and Dr. Harvey even once flew a tiny Frenchie named Jackson, out to see some specialists in order to save his life. Dr. Partridge even brought him up in his private plane in order to ensure that little Jackson had the best care possible.

However, in a very tragic twist of fate, Dr. Partridge and his wife were traveling in the personal plane when there was a malfunction and it caused a crash. Sadly, the couple lost their lives. It was a devastating blow as Dr. Partridge had been a huge help to PPPR, and he showed a level of kindness and compassion that is only matched by Jamie herself.

PPPR has so many sad stories that might make some people ask, “Why?” Why rescue all these poor, unfortunate souls? Why spend so much money and time on them? Even Dr. Partridge once teased Jamie, asking, “Do you just go to the shelter and ask for the most pathetic and hopeless dog they have?”

While Jamie has heard all the negative criticism before, she has only one answer, which is, “I fight for the underdog. I save the ones no one else will. I save the ones that other rescues won’t save because it’s too expensive. Just like the day I first came on the rescue scene, many laughed at my name Pawlicious Poochie Pet Rescue. I said then, ‘I am going to make a difference and PPPR will be a force in rescue.’”

What an incredible woman. Thank you Jamie for taking care of all these dogs – you’re a true hero.
