Zeus, Tallest Dog In the World, Passes Away Following Cancer Surgery
Zeus, the three-year-old Great Dane who earned the ‘Tallest Living Male Dog‘ Guinness World Record in 2022, has sadly passed away on Tuesday, September 12 after battle with cancer.
According to the Guinness World Records, Zeus was recently diagnosed with bone cancer and had to have his front right leg amputated.
Following the surgery on September 8, the pooch developed pneumonia. After the vets discovered Zeus’ cancer, the pooch’s owner, Brittany Davis, set up a GoFundMe for him to raise donations so she could provide the best possible care for the gentle giant.
Sadly, on September 12, Davis shared the devastating news of the pooch’s passing on the GoFundMe page.
“Our baby boy is gone. Our hearts are broken. He had the absolute best doctors who sat of the floor and cried with us,” Brittany wrote.
She continued, “He fought hard but the pneumonia was just too much. He is not in pain anymore. He is resting peacefully.”
Brittany also thanked everyone who donated to support Zeus’ medical bills during his heartbreaking battle with cancer. The fur mom wrote, “All the donations went to him and we appreciated every single one. It made our hearts a little lighter to know there are so many good people in the world willing to help people in need.”
In a report by the Guinness World Records, Brittany also shared that “Zeus died with his head in his mom’s lap getting ear scratches and kisses until the very end. He was three-and-a-half years old.”
“We know that Zeus is in a better place now, running free and eating the good stuff off of the countertops in heaven. We will never forget him. Goodbye Zeusy, we love you! Cancer sucks!”
Zeus was named the tallest living male dog back in 2022. He was a grey and brown Great Dane from Bedford, Texas, USA and stands at a whopping 1.046 meters (3 ft 5.18 in).
The gentle giant was a gift to Brittany, who said she has always dreamed of having a Great Dane, from his brother.
Rest in peace, Zeus! You’ll forever be in our hearts.
